Introduction and About Me: Alyssa Varner

My background includes a mixture of IT, library, and administration work.

My education consists of a Masters of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University, and a Bachelors in Biology from Humboldt State University.

I formerly worked at the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center as assistant to the IT Director, and as part of the Support Team in the role of IT Support.

Before that, I was employed at Salt Lake Community College in the Public Services section of the Library Department. As Public Services concerns itself with directly meeting the needs of our patrons, I had been able to gain experience both in the forward-facing aspects of library operations and the back-office logistics required for any library to truly succeed.

I consider myself to be a systems specialist- which is to say, I am particularly skilled at learning the intricacies of how an organization works, and then fine-tuning those systems until they operate like a well-oiled machine. And no matter where I am, I enjoy the unique challenge of creating an enjoyable, efficient place for all.

This portfolio is divided into three sections: the introduction that you are currently reading, my “competencies” (aka a selection of my academic work), and a section dedicated to showcasing my skills and other projects.

The heading for each evidence description within a competency contains a link to the evidence itself.

This WordPress portfolio was built by myself with the Elementor plugin, due to its customizability and longevity.
